Shocking figures were revealed by the governemnt on Wednesday, which states that there are 7 crore people in India who are either unemployed or under employed.“As per results of the latest survey conducted by the National Sample Survey Organization (NSSO) during 2009-10, the number of unemployed or under-employed persons on usual status basis in the country was 95 lakh and about six crore, respectively,” the Union labour and employment minister Mallikarjun Khagre said in the Rajya Sabha during the Question Hour.
He also added that the government is making continous efforts to create productive employment opprtunities at a faster pace in order to improve the general living conditions of the people.
“The job opportunities are created on account of growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP), investment in infrastructure development, growth in exports, etc,” Kharge said.

While replying to a supplementary, he says that the difference in expectations of Industry & academics still prevails though efforts are taken to involve industry while designing the curricula.
“No demand surveys are conducted by the government. However, National Skill Development Corporation conducted a study for 21 high growth sectors which has estimated, skilled manpower requirement of 34.7 crore up to 2022,” he said.
