Google Summer of Code 2013

Google Summer of Code 2013 has been announced! Compete with the best of the programmers all over world to book your ticket to a summer full of fun (read coding), excellent mentoring from wizards of the field, a kick-ass project, and loads of cash – all for the love of coding! The last date to apply is 3rd May 2013 – hurry!
Please note that applications would open on 22nd April but the advance notice is for student to get sufficient time to prepare their applications.

About Google Summer of Code:  – Google Summer of Code is a global program that offers student developers stipends to write code for various open source software projects. Since its inception in 2005, the program has brought together nearly 5,500 successful student participants and over 3000 mentors from over 100 countries worldwide, all for the love of code. Through Google Summer of Code, accepted student applicants are paired with a mentor or mentors from the participating projects, thus gaining exposure to real-world software development scenarios and the opportunity for employment in areas related to their academic pursuits. In turn, the participating projects are able to more easily identify and bring in new developers. Best of all, more source code is created and released for the use and benefit of all.
Who can apply: – Pretty much anyone with a brain and heart of a programmer, must be a student, and 18 years or older on or before May 27, 2013.
Location: – All development occurs online; there is no requirement to travel as part of the program.
Duration: – While there is considerable time spent in application, bonding etc. The coding happens between May 21 – August 24
Stipend: – $5,000/-
